                               Fenech



An animal with a funny name "Fennec" (accent on the first syllable) - a relative of our normal fox, greatly inferior to her in size. Fenech (lat. Vulpes zerda) belongs to the family of canids, being the youngest of his representative - it is less than the normal domestic cat. Fenech has an unusual appearance: short pointed muzzle, large eyes, small teeth, hairy paw feet, and most importantly - the huge, fifteen centimeter ears.

Homeland Fenech - deserts of Africa (they are most common in the Sahara), which determines the lifestyle and habits of the animal. To escape the heat, Fenech burrows, which is carried out day and night come out to hunt. Fenech prefer to live in the thickets of grass and bushes, where they find food. These little foxes live in large families, consisting of a pair of parents, young puppies, and sometimes - a more grown-up children. Sometimes in one den settles several clans. Fenech like to "talk", delivering information through barking, yelps and howls.

The hunt Fenech prefer an individual style, as well as other foxes. Interestingly, the animals are omnivorous and consume everything that can dig eggs, small animals, including insects, roots and fruits of plants. Fenech thrifty - they set aside some food for a "rainy day", can be a long time without water.

Another feature Fenech - agility and jumping ability. With his modest growth they can make jumping height of 70 centimeters! Nocturnal allowed Fenech develop phenomenal hearing, smell, and vigilance in the dark.

Fenech create permanent pair parents own their own territory. Estrus females lasts only two days, and the males at this time are very aggressive, seek as much as possible to tag your site. Mating season begins in January and fevarle, and in March or April is born offspring. In the hole with soft bedding appears two to six pups, which weigh only 50 grams.

Over the next two weeks the female remains in the nest with her cubs and the male brings her food. Up to three months, they learn the surrounding area, and then begin to make more distant attacks. Just at that moment, the female stops producing milk.

Starting from 6-9 months of age, young Fenech reach sexual maturity, but some of them stay with their parents, helping them to raise these litters. Fenech live up to 10-12 years.

In areas of its natural habitats Fenech being destroyed because of the valuable fur. However, these animals are caught and alive, because it is the only species of fox, which can be tamed and contain at home!
